Installing Firefox Aurora binary

I rarely use Firefox these days. I usually use Chrome, Lynx or Opera for web browsing. I think it’s because the latest Firefox version on BlankOn repository is 3.6 (or is it 3.5?). It’s still quite a good one, but I didn’t have any reason to use it while I got other browsers on their latest version at my disposal.

A couple days before, I decided to try Firefox again. But which one? I decided to get Aurora build. I’d like to get the nightly build but I guess it’s a bit overboard.

Installing Aurora binary on BlankOn Linux isn’t really hard. It’s as easy as:
wget http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/firefox-11.0a2.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2
tar xzvf firefox-11.0a2.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2

That’s all. Now I can Aurora by double-clicking the Firefox binary file inside the firefox directory (or run it from the Terminal). For convenience, I moved the folder to /opt, and create a launcher on Desktop. I also make new menu entry for Aurora on Openbox Menu.

Aurora is surprisingly stable so far, despite of it’s “alpha” status.
